Thanks for this. I've been getting more and more obsessed with avant garde/organic/world music as it relates to the 80s/early 90s--to me the most inorganic, un-avant gard period in modern music. This is all making me rethink that. I've been really drawn to these global sounds but filtered through a big box, primitive/dated production style. I like how it's an exercise in contrasts. I'm thinking Hassel's Power Spot, Mark Isham, Patrick O'Hearn, Sting, Peter Gabriel, even Fleetwood Mac's Tango in the Night and Pink Floyd's A Momentary Lapse of Reason. That Total Blue album from a couple years ago really got me going deeper into this world. If you haven't heard it, Anthony Calonico's Spacious Heart fits right in and is one of my fav records this year.

Anyway, I'm not sure what point I'm making aside from: i want more.
